Tomorrow is a special day in the life our church! Not only is it the Lord’s Day, a day of worship and fellowship, but we have Bro. Mike Silvey coming in view of a call to be our Pastor! This is a day for which we have longed, prayed, and toiled for several months.
As a history teacher, I deal a lot with “turning points”. These are events which have taken place in the past which have marked or defined an era, or caused major change in society. I believe tomorrow is the beginning of a “turning point” for our church as we consider God’s will for our future. Quite possibly one era will come to a close as a new one begins. There may be some change involved. In light of this, there are three things we must do going into tomorrow and throughout the following week: We must pray–We must listen–We must trust.
—PRAY that God’s perfect will for us is done. Pray for Mike and his family. Pray for the services this weekend and next, including the vote to take place and all the people who will be in attendance these two weeks.
—LISTEN to Bro. Mike. Listen to the words he proclaims from God’s Word. Listen to the answers he gives in the Q & A session Sunday night. And listen to the Holy Spirit speak to you through the Scriptures as you deliberate and pray.
—TRUST. Trust God. That’s it. Trust Him that he has led our Search Committee to the man HE has for us. Trust Him and know that HE is in control of all things. Trust God.
And then we will give God all the glory for the things He has done!
Know how thankful I am to be here and to serve alongside you as we worship, study God’s Word, and fellowship together. I can’t wait for tomorrow!
P.S. Two songs tomorrow may be unfamiliar to some of you. “Come, Christians, Join to Sing” will open our service in the morning and I believe you will recognize it when you hear it. Most likely have not sung it in quite some time. You can watch and listen to an arrangement similar to what we will sing here.
The other is a modern hymn that you may have heard on the radio called “Christ Our Hope in Life and Death”, which you can watch and listen to here.
Please take a moment to watch these videos and familiarize yourself with these great hymns in preparation for tomorrow’s time of worship in song.
